Happy New Year/Pregnancy Closing Update

Hello everyone!
I hope that this entry finds you getting ready to celebrate the new year tomorrow! I cannot believe that 2012 is almost here.
Praying y'all have a blessed time tomorrow evening!
With the new year, I have been faced with some rough decisions with Skidz Wife Creations.
I need to close up shop early in January 2012 instead of mid-Feburary like I had originally planned.
Unfortunately, I will have MANY more appointments to keep myself and skidz kid #3 healthy before delivery than I previously anticipated. So as much as it pains me, I will be closing down  SWC for new orders in 2-3 weeks.
I most importantly have to take care of myself & my unborn babe but also have a family to look after as well. To all of you have emailed, messaged, & Facebooked me support....thank-you all so much! That really means the world to me to have such awesome customers/friends!
In a nutshell, Kymber Mae (yes we finally named her!) is doing great. Her mama on the other hand is not. In the next 13 or so weeks, I will be faced with cardiologist appointments, weekly non-stress test appointments, 2-3 times per week physical therapy appointments, and also my regular OB appointments.
Thus not leaving me time to devote to orders.
I want to service you to the best of my ability & give you a quality product. I don't feel that I will be able to do that under the current time constraints that I will have.
I am sorry to inconveinence you in anyway! Please make sure to firm up your orders with me because I will be shutting down orders once I meet max capacity even if it is not 2-3 weeks from now.
Although it feels disappointing to be ending 2011 on this note, I am keeping in mind the fact that you, the customers, made it such a memorable year for me! I am also looking ahead to when I come back from maternity leave & I am excited to see what new lines I can come up with!
Thank-you and Happy New Year from SWC!

Merry Christmas from Skidz Wife Creations!

I wish that I could send everyone of you a card this year, but since I can't I am hoping that this virtual one will do the trick!
Thank-you all for making my second year in business a smashing success & I look forward to sewing for you in 2012.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Prayer Requests

Before my day gets too chaotic, I wanted to ask a huge favor from my favorite business peeps.
Being that my company is a God-centered & run by a christian woman, I am asking my friends, clients, and fans to please keep 2 families in prayer today.
My friend, fellow deployment survivor, business & sewing mentor Christina R is undergoing major surgery today. Her diagnosis is uncertain and she has ALOT going on right now but somehow maintains her funky, free-loving spirit. Her post from her personal FB this morning was....
Today is THE DAY....headed to UNC Chapel Hill for surgery and skull reconstruction.
She is the owner of Leelee. If you would like to send her a word of encouragement, please visit her facebook page here

Also, please keep the Bloomer family in prayer.
This is another military family that we got to know while Ben (my husband, co-owner of SWC) was stationed in Cherry Point.
Joe accidently fell from the second deck to the first just 2 days prior to his homecoming. He has sustained spinal cord injuries as well as having to get several portions of his vertebrae fused together.
He was supposed to be medevac-ed today but has been postponed until December 22nd at this point. Please pray for continued recovery as well as for his sweet family which includes Stephanie and his 2 little boys (the youngest was born on this deployment.)

For those of you that are military spouses, you know how hard it is to be away from your major family support systems on a daily basis, let alone when things are going tragically wrong. My hope is to bathe them all in prayer so that they can feel the love in these trying times.
I (and their families) appreciate the prayer support at this time!
Thank-you and Merry Christmas!

Embroidery Question

Hello folks!
I just wanted to let you know the policy on embroidering on your personal items since I have had several messages about this particular question.
Yes, I do embroider on personal items provided by you (within reason.)
If the item requires me tearing it apart and sewing it back together again to embroider on it, (i.e. stockings, pillows, etc) I am not currently offering that service. Sorry for the inconveinence.
The charge for this service is $1.00 per 1,000 stitches. I will provide you with a cost estimate prior to accepting your order.

Again, ALL orders received will be processed (in the order they are received) in January 2012 as I am not accepting any more Christmas orders at this time.
Thank-you!!

Stressed out over the holidays?

We are sewing up a storm so you don't have to be!
Come check SWC (and many other local crafters) out at the
Camp Lejeune Fall Craft Fair
Saturday, November 19th
and
Sunday, November 20th

Have you thought about supporting LOCAL businesses this year by purchasing the gifts on your list with them instead of supporting HUGE corporations?

When you shop with local businesses, you not only get great   gifts, but you boost your LOCAL ECONOMY as well as help that business owner provide for their family.

You, the customer, are our everything. Spending $100 at Walmart or another big store during the holidays won't make a difference to that company; but spending $100 through a home business owner on Christmas means our business can continue; it gives us our pay, earns us our promotions, meets our sales quotas, and helps us educate and inform without using harsh sales techniques. The big stores will not care about you the way we will because unfortunately, you don't mean that much to them. You mean the world to us - shop a home business for Christmas this year ♥

Embroidery

I am learning more and more on my "new" machine. (In an effort to serve you better!)
I just wanted to touch base with future clients to let you know that I will be using a water soluable stabilizer on most of my products from here on out. (So you are probably wondering how does that affect me right?)
It provides a much nicer finished product.
It will also mean that you will need to wash your item before using it as there will be a slight remainder of it on the product upon pick-up.
It is washer safe and will simply disintegrate and leave no trace of its presence on your SWC item or in your washer!
Thanks for your time and patience as I "learn the ropes" of my new girl Singer!

Are you wondering.....

How home-based businesses determine their prices?
This is a discussion that my husband (a.k.a. my financial backer) have had several times.
I like to keep my items reasonably priced (esp. with today's current economic climate) but still making a small profit. In other words, I am not looking to rip you off =)
I totaled 2 of the items that I completed today so that you can see what goes into the work behind the scenes.....
Front embroidery: 8,415 stitches and 25 minutes
Back embroidery: 7,150 stitches and 25 minutes
The applique for both sides from design to cut to prep and sew took 45 minutes to an hour.
Price $22.00

Bloomers
5,700 stitches
30 minutes
$12.00

Curious to know what your opinions as a consumer are on these? Please send responses to skidzwifecreations1@yahoo.com
Thanks!

My newest creation

Ok so it is not MY creation but rather a lot of God and a little of my husband and I!
We are expecting our third child in March of 2012.
I am so very thankful for those customers sticking by me through this VERY rough first trimester. I know that I have a few pending orders and I am slowly working on them for you guys! (It really doesn't sit right with my personality to have all of those projects on my table so I have been very anxious about getting them done!) I have a pinched nerve in my left hip which has made it EXTREMELY difficult to sit, let alone sit and sew.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about your outstanding orders and I will get back with you!

Hello guys and gals!
I am finally settled at home after a planned vacation to Pennsylvania and California AND an unplanned vacation to western NC to avoid Hurricane Irene.

I am going to put a HOLD on any new orders right now.
I need to finish up the outstanding orders that I had before vacation and all of the ones that I receieved during vacation.
I apologize for any inconveince that this might cause and I will let you know when the shop is back open for new orders.
Thank-you!

Just this morning....

I came across this article and I wanted to share it. I enjoy being a WAHM but first and foremost, I am a child of God. This really made me want to focus on these verses to help me through my second year of business! Hope you enjoy!

Each year, I pick a bible verse as my theme for the year. This year I did not choose a verse, but a saying that a coaching client shared with me. “Either I win or I learn, but with God’s help I never lose”. I loved that, and I was so touched by what this entrepreneur shared with me, that I felt like that was the message for me this year. But I still wanted to share the verses I was considering. There are so many powerful verses to read in the bible. Here’s a list of 11 favorites that I use for encouragement. I hope that you will print this post and share it with others, so that they might be helped along the spiritual journey we call entrepreneurship.

1. No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9 One of my favorite business heroes Oprah Winfrey often says God can dream it bigger for you than you can dream it for yourself. There will be times in your life and in your business when the people around you will not understand the vision God had given you for your business. Read this Bible verse and be steadfast in your entrepreneurial journey.

2. Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3 If everything in your business is done to glorify God, he will Bless your work.

3. The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. Proverbs 21:5 A good idea is still a good idea three weeks from now. There are no “get rich quick” schemes. Do not be in a hurry for anything. Learn all you can. Be focused and diligent and your business will succeed.

4. I will find the Lord when I seek him with all my heart and with all my soul. Deuteronomy 4:29 The best thing you can do for your business is pray daily with an open heart. God speaks to us through vision and dreams. Be open to what God wants you to learn.

5. The Blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22 God is not about mess, he is a God of abundance. If you follow him he will give you what you need to make this business or your next business a big success.

6. Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul? Why are you crying the blues? I fix my eyes on God and soon I’ll be praising again. He puts a smile on my face. He’s my God. Psalm 42:5 My father used to say we wouldn’t know God’s day if it weren’t for bad days, so thank God for the bad days too. Trouble, stress, and sorrow are all just temporary. Always remember who you are and whose you are and everything will be just fine.

7. I fear not, for God is with me; I am not dismayed; for He is my God. He will strengthen me, yes, He will help me, He will uphold me with His righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 One of the biggest things that entrepreneurs struggle with is fear and lack of self confidence. When you feel yourself starting to doubt yourself, read this Bible verse and then move forward and be fearless. Make that call or go to that meeting and just sparkle.

8. By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but Him who sent me. John 5:30 It’s never about you. It’s about the team around you and your customers.

9. I seriously consider what I am doing before taking on new projects. I expand prudently and I do not court neglect of present duties by assuming too many new ones. Proverbs 31:16 Be a project finisher. Do not be one of these business owners that run from thing to thing with more than one brand message. Make it clear what business you are in by focusing on one niche customer.

10. Pride lands me flat on my face, but humility prepares me for honor. Proverbs 29:23 Do not let your pride keep you from learning a lesson. Be humble and realize that you can learn something from anyone, even the interns.

11. I live by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 You are only one idea away fr0m living your dreams, but if you do not believe in your business no one else will. Let your faith guide you.

This post was inspired in part by the work of the Lord in my life and by Joyce Meyer’s book, The Secret Power of Speaking God’s Word.

Hello all!
I have been super busy (not with sewing or crafting unfortunately) with creating a new work space for myself and SWC. In the process, this also means making a new room for my children and A LOT of mess in the second story of my home.
I hope to be back to posting here and on facebook regularly starting next week.
Thank-you for your patience in this time of transition!

New Options

Layaway
I know that economic times are hard. I also know that there are several stores that you can go to & put your items on layaway. I have worked with a few customers over the past year that had to pay in installments or wait until the next paycheck so I thought why not offer layaway too? I wanted to give this option for unique, one-of-a kind gifts when you are on a budget!
Here is the fine print!

We have decided to offer a layaway system.

We love shopping and understand that a layaway system could make paying a bit easier for some people (especially over the christmas period)

To make a layby you will need to confirm your order and pay 25% deposit to cover the cost of materials.

We will allow up to 8 weeks for a layaway. (Unless you make other specific arrangements.)

Regular (each payperiod) payments must be made

Items will not be posted until layaway is finalized.

We will begin working on orders as soon as the deposit is paid.

All layaways not finalized by the end of the 8 weeks (unless other arrangements have been made with us) will be listed for sale and 25% deposit will be forfieted. All other money will be refunded.

Christmas Order Deadline

Christmas in July!
Well at least the Christmas deadline.......
I will be taking orders until
December 5, 2011
for Christmas orders to arrive on time this year.
You can place orders after that, but there will be a fee of
$5.00 per item
attached to your order.
It's never to early to start your Christmas shopping!

Raggy wreath

Yes, I have jumped on the raggy wreath bandwagon!
This was a fabulous use of some of my scrap material that I couldn't bear to part with!
I had made it just to use some of my own creative juices but now I have some questions on ordering one.
They will be custom order ONLY for
$40.00
I will bring a few (maybe 5) to the Camp Lejeune Fall Craft fair this year as well.
Please send all orders to
Thanks!!

Find the differences.....

Can you find the differences in the dresses?
I know that some fabric patterns are going to be more popular than others but I enjoy making sure that each one is a little bit different than the last.
I have now used this fabric in 8 different dresses. All of them seperated by ruffles, buttons, ribbons, shirring, and other things.
